Sessai Hattori drew the pictures for a picture album entitled Asagao Sanjūroku Kasen (A Selection of 36 Morning Glory Flowers). It was published in 1854. Very few of these 36 morning glory pictures look like the “normal” morning glory. Instead, they were chosen to appeal to morning glory enthusiasts looking for something new and different.
